Alva Myrdal

Alva Myrdal (1902–86) devoted much time to international questions and, in 1949, became Head of UNO's section for welfare policy, where she stayed until elected chairwoman of UNESCO'S social science section in 1950. In 1955, she was appointed Swedish ambassador to India, and seven years later she became nominated Sweden's representative to the Geneva disarmament conference. In 1982, four years before she died, she received the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo.
